History of the Hotel

FROM LENIN TO THE PRESENT

The building on Mühlegasse 17 was built in 1879 out of the old Zurich city wall. Even today, you can still partially detect these original walls. The Café Zähringerhof used to be located on the ground floor of the building where Lenin liked to mingle during his time in Zurich.
The Jazz Club Africana was legendary during the 1960s. Abdullah Ibrahim frequently performed here under the name of Dollar Brand. The great Duke Ellington was amongst the crowd one day and took great pleasure in the unique blend of music that consisted of jazz, South African folklore and impressionist classic tones.
The Scheuble family acquired this unique establishment in 1968 and turned it into a hotel.
